Sign of the Times

I’m also a Prince fan from way back; in fact, I just might be a collection of my various pop culture influences. So, today was a landmark day in the life of Deidre—after nearly ten years in business, I have my first SIGN. You’ll note the various angles and snapshots of said sign sprinkled throughout this post. It was an awesome moment, driving up to the office today and seeing it there, hanging by the street. Sort of, “Wow! I’m real!”

Remember the great scene in VANILLA SKY when Kurt Russell’s character is revealed as not having a last name? He keeps saying, “I’m real, damn it! I’m REAL!” That’s a bit how it felt these past few years while I slaved away in my office at home. There we were, posting major sales and major deals, but no matter how nontraditional an era we’re living in—especially in terms of business—it’s hard to shake the very traditional conceptions of what constitutes a business. You want mortar; you want equipment; you want employees. Having grown up in a family retail business, I kept feeling that my enterprise, no matter how successful, was less than authentic without an old-fashioned shingle.

Silly. Totally ridiculous in the age of Internet and faxes and phones and iPods (well, you’ve got to have music at the office!) and the like. Still, when I pulled into my parking space today I sorta felt like I’d finally arrived.

Good day!
:)

It's beautiful!! The office, too, looks great on the outside also. I'm so happy for you!

Also, have to comment on how much I like the sunshine and blue skies in the pictures...unlike the cloudy skies and 3 inches of SNOW in my front yard. :-)

Hugs,
Shannon

Another perspective: I drove right past it on the way to drop off one of our kids for school, and didn't even notice--this after getting an email from Samantha reporting that the sign had been completed. Then, on the way back from the school, I saw it in all its glory, and--of course I'm biased here--it was a beautiful sight to see ;-)

Yay! And a lovely sign it is!

It sort of resembles our business card on stilts. :)

I just wish you'd been able to include a few pictures of the sign in your post. *wink*

Congrats! It's a very elegant sign.

Wow, how exciting! I know what you mean. Despite all you've accomplished, and how great you're doing, this sort of makes it... official. BTW, loved Vanilla Sky. Such a great film!

I love it! I must come to visit (as a traveling procrastinator, I have to add "sometime" to that statement) Nothing but good things ahead!

It's like the cherry on top! Perfecto!

Congratulations, Deidre. It looks great.

And I agree with Shannon about the lack of snow in the pictures...

Gee, I don't know what to say without being redundant. :)

I know the style is consistent with other Knight Agency branded items (like the business card you mentioned) but seeing it struck me as "perfectly TKA." Even before I read your post I understood the significance of the picture, and I'm so happy for you!

You're all so incredibly sweet. Thanks for getting the significance and knowing what a milestone something so relatively simple can be. Big hugs to all my blog pals!

Deidre,

Congratulations on such a landmark occasion! I can't wait to see the offices (and the sign) in person.

It couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Congrats, De! It looks great! The office looks beautiful too, but curse you for having sun and no snow.

WHOO HOO!!! I can't wait to come and see it...and about that snow...I'm watching it fly down (and thinking about cold feet) even as I type...

While you were doing that, on theother side of the world I was falling.
Three operations later, and three weeks in hospital with my laptop and so much time to devote to in-depth edit my leg is just beginning to mend.

Sigh.
And your new sign has probably been rained on at least ten times.
