Favorite Romantic Scenes of All Time: Bennie and the Jets Anyone?

It’s probably no great secret to anyone by now that I’m a huge movie hound. Love all kinds of flicks, from the artier/indie ones to the grossly commercial summer blockbusters. But I’m especially a sucker for romantic movies, and like most romance authors probably have a list of movies with favorite romantic scenes.

I thought it would be fun to do a little blog series about some of my faves. To launch, let’s start with 27 Dresses and the Bennie and the Jets scene. As if it’s not already adorable enough—as if James Marsters isn’t made of yum—that moment when he hops off the bar and finally admits that he “cried like a baby at the Keller wedding.” This, after telling her he didn’t even remember writing that particular wedding column in an effort to seem jaded and cynical. Watching the clip, it hit me that he’d be a good bet for playing Jamie Angel in my Gods of Midnight. There’s not as much of him in RED KISS, more in RED FIRE, but he’ll definitely be getting a story of his own in the future!

Take a peek at this funny, charming and romantic scene:

I haven't seen 27 Dresses yet, but now I think I might rent it this weekend :)!! Let's see... I think one of my fave romantic scenes of all-time was when Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes's Romeo & Juliet characters spy each other through the aquarium. In the background Desiree sings "Kissing You." Ah...the memories.

Jia, it's really fun and very romantic (to me!) And oh my, watching that clip again just then, "the wind and the waterfall..." I mean who HASNT sung some made up lyric to that song??

I totally used to think she had "electric boobs". Nobody bothered to correct me either.

In Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts' character gets caught kissing the sleeping Richard Gere... I think the kissing scene that follows is a great romantic moment.

On the other end of the spectrum, the kiss where Ennis threw Jack against the wall in Brokeback Mountain, was the hottest kiss ever!

Gwen, it's quite possible that I used to think it was electric boobs. Then again, I'm the one who never figured out that "lines on the mirror, lines on her face" in LIFE IN THE FAST LANE referred to coke. It's like my mind keeps filling in what it thought at ten! :)

And, oh yeah, Shayla. The Jack/Ennis kiss is one of the most passionate moments in any movie. Thanks for reminding me. :) Might need to highlight that one, and SO agree about PRETTY WOMAN which is probably #1 fave romantic movie moment of all time for me. :)

Loved 27 Dresses!

I'd have to say that Love Actually is one of my favorite romantic movies of all time. There are so many scenes in it that are noteworthy (IMO). Among them the couples featured are the porn stand-ins. They chat it up while shotting and fall in love so sweetly. I keep wanting to share this movie with my daughter until I remember the, ahem, "action scenes". We'll have to wait a couple of years for that, lol.

Oh my gosh I LOVE this movie! I've been a James Marsden fan forever and was SO happy that he finally got a romantic lead role. (I was rooting for him in The Notebook.)

It's hard to pick my favorite romance movie but this is on the top of the lists.

On a side note, James Marsden was in a movie called "Interstate 60". If you haven't seen it, rent it or buy it or find it someway, it's really worth it. Great all around movie.

Loved the post Deirdre! :) Thanks!

In a little-known but adorable date movie, Christian Kane kisses Estella Warren in a manner that virtually every woman would dream of. His kisses are romantic and tender -- but really hot at the same time. Definitely worth checking out!
