Come On Get Happy!

My hubby has been blogging about Shaun Cassidy recently, and what he didn't share (at least I don't think so) was that our recent surge in Cassidy interest resulted after I TIVO'ed the movie COME ON GET HAPPY recently off ABC Family. Our daughters absolutely adore this movie (despite some inappropriate elements that we have to shield them from during the viewing.) They seem to love it almost as much because of their fascination with their parents' childhoods, which featured watching the PARTRIDGE FAMILY on Friday nights.

I'm almost embarassed to admit that one of my first childhood crushes was on Danny Bonaduce, but, well since I did wind up normal in the end, I guess there's no harm done in fessing up.

So without further ado, I would like to unveil my latest discovery, one which put a silly grin on my face while I listened to the opening "movie."

And then for those of you in my age group, get back to me. Did it give you a sloppy grin too? :)

Since the Patridge family ended in 1974 and I was born at the end of 1970...I had to enjoy it in reruns, but it was one of my favorites. And yes the link you posted made me smile :)

Well, Bonnie, I'm not much older. :) I was very little. I have memories of jumping up and down on my bed to the 45 of I WOKE UP IN LOVE THIS MORNING (which I still own, btw!) :) D

I remember Sunday nights and "The Hardy Boys" on ABC was a must see for me. I actually still HAVE in my possesion, my 45 (still plays nicely) of "THAT'S ROCK & ROLL" with "HEY DEANIE" on the flip side. Think I could get a pretty penny for that on eBay? (Like I'd EVER sell it!)

My first crush was on Haley Mills (sp). I still think she is great. As I got older I turned my attention to Linda Carter.

Thanks for the blog.

Totally sloppy grin! How fun! My hubby walked in the room and started instantly humming along.

I think I was more of a rerun watcher, too, when I was a little older.

OOOhhh, Marley, I think that Hey Deanie was one of my favorites! Way cool!

You know, somewhere around here, I have copies of very elaborate stories my cousin and I wrote when we were probably in 5th or 6th grade, when we were madly in love with the Hardy Boys. Shaun and Parker were our boyfriends, and we, of course, were the heroines. :-) Memmmmorrriesss....

Shannon...after this discussion immersed me in Shaun Cassidy memories, I went to Amazon.com and played some sound clips. I was cooking dinner and singing "Hey Deanie" and my hubby said to me, "what ARE you singing? I've never heard that." LOL...ah, he was not around for my Shaun phase in 1977. *eg*

Marley = )

My first big crush was Shaun Cassidy--I used to hate it when they showed Nancy Drew instead of the Hardy Boys. Such a disappointment.

I've never seen that movie, but I do remember watching the show. And whenever I see a rerun playing I always sit down and enjoy. I even bought a "Come On, Get Happy" t-shirt last year!

(And I'm grinning at that entire site.)

I watched the ABC movie, I think. It was different actors, right? I had to watch it, it was the Partridge Family! I loved that show. :)

I also adored The Hardy Boys. Parker Stevenson, sigh. My first major crush. Good times, good times.

I didn't watch the show or the movie, and I rarely watched the Hardy Boys, but I did love both Parker and Shaun and had Shaun's album! I'm sure I still do, in storage somewhere.

Natalie, off to search iTunes...

What a blast from the Past! Thanks! I still have my Shaun Cassidy Album . For years I subscribed to Tiger Beat to get all the dishy stuff about David Cassidy, Vincent Van Patton, and yes, I'll admit, the OSMONDS! Oh, does anyone remember the Hudson Brothers Show???? And what Lynn said about hating it when they had Nancy Drew on instead of the Hardy Boys, Wow did that bring back memories, I felt the same way! I remember singing Surfing USA with Shaun ..ah to be young again..not!

Oh, yeah. That made me smile. I'll admit it. I loved that show. I had a crush on David Cassidy. I wanted to be Laurie. I wanted that BUS! Speaking of crushes, around that same time, I had a real thing for Bobby Sherman. *grin* Why do I suddenly feel ancient?!

You guys are too fun. I'm enjoying reading all these posts. I had, of course, a series of ongoing crushes. Shaun came later, and yes I was right there with you going, "Ugh, Nancy Drew?? Give me Shaun!"

Do they still publish TIGER BEAT?

I haven't a clue about Tiger Beat - For some reason I always get stuck in the paperback section looking for all the authors from the Blogosphere *grin*
Does anyone remember Randy Mantooth from Emergency! or Kevin Tigh or Kent McCord from Adam 12? Am I dating myself here??? Or that cute curly haired-sort of- guy from the Mod Squad???

Michele, your questions sound like the kind that Deidre loves to ask--and sometimes answer. She's always asking about some actor, "Isn't he the guy who...?"

The Partridge Family movie was way fun, and the resemblance--in face, voice, and mannerisms--between the actors and their characters was stunning. Especially fun, as D said, to see the girls' reaction. Our three-year-old esp. keyed in on "Mr. Ribbon" (Reuben), while the six-year-old assigned roles for all of us: "I'm Lori, Mommy you're Mrs. Partridge," and so on.

We tried to interest them in The Brady Bunch, and the magic just wasn't there. Partly, of course, that's b/c they had just watched a whole movie about the Partridge Family, but I think it's also b/c the Bradys' show lacked the kind of distinctive forward motion provided by the idea of a family driving around in a bus and playing music. I know I was always a bigger fan of The Partridge Family--and I had much more of a crush on Lori than on Marsha Brady. (Though my main "It" girl, at age six, was 99 from Get Smart. It was a red-letter day, 20 years later, when a guy told me he thought Deidre looked like 99.)

HI ... um, how do I address you,
Mr. Judson Knight , Sir?
or Judson???
Anyway, THANKS!! for a wonderful reply to my little questions. The only magic I ever found with the Brady Bunch was when Davy Jones from the Monkees visited.
Oh, I hope I don't embarass myself here, but when I saw YOUR picture in the reply I almost thought maybe YOU were the curly haired guy on the MOD SQUAD years later and that Deidre had married him. I almost fell out of my chair, kind of worried what you might say. So, yea, I guess I can understand the feeling when someone comments about some one you know and compares them with someone famous.
I think I'll crawl back under my rock now....
