Oscar Gold!

I'm enjoying watching the Oscars tonight, but am disappointed that my boy Jake G (yes, he IS mine--just ask Jud. Grin) didn't win for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Still, he was fun to watch on the red carpet.

So far, the funniest thing was the montage that supposedly proved that there had never been any homoerotic subtext during the classic westerns. Lots of "take my piece" kind of moments, and quite hysterically done. I'm also laughing at the "ads" lobbying for best actresses. Especially the one for Reese's "all American ad." Is it me, or was this year's Oscar ceremony a bit more fun? Not nearly so boring?

I wish Matt Dillon had gotten an Oscar for CRASH--his role made that movie for me.

Oh, and then there's John Stewart's definition of pimp, as in Hustle and Flow: "Sort of like an agent, with a better hat." Ahem. Just don't let any pimps try to write books, or we'll be in trouble.

Hugs!

I would have to agree.. I wanted Jake to win and I really wanted Joaquin to win. He was fabulous in Johnny Cash, but I was happy Reese got an Oscar.

I was rooting for Crash, though. My friend Art had a bit part in it and his company did some editing for the movie.

Don't kill me, but I did bump into Jake once at this little mall near the Kodak Theatre..he's just as dreamy in person!

I've never been very impressed with Jake--don't hit me! I think he needs to age a little bit before I can truly appreciate him. I have a 17-year-old son who's very buff, so any stars between the ages of 18 and 27 (or who look it) kinda creep me out, LOL.

Deidre, did you know Brokeback Mountain was filmed in Alberta? That's the province next to mine.

I was so happy Crash won. I haven't seen BM yet, but I have seen Crash and I totally loved it. While I'm also glad Philip Seymour Hoffman won (I saw him on Broadway and he was AMAZING--he outshone Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Dennehy, who were billed as the stars of the play), I haven't seen Capote yet, either, and I was rooting for Joaquin Phoenix in WALK THE LINE. But then I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan, thanks to my dad.

I miss Billy Crystal. Mostly because I love him.
Cindy you hit the nail on the head. I could go Loony on Clooney but "kids" without a little bit of pepper and salt on top of their heads I start looking for their pimples.

I really loved Reese Witherspoon's speech.

Hey, it's hard out here for a pimp! (Honestly, I bet they'd write one heck of a book.)
Much as I love Heath Ledger (and as wonderful as he was in Brokeback Mountain), Phillip Seymour Hoffman was astounding in Capote. It was an amazing performance. He totally deserved the Oscar.

I am just glad that "Hustle and Flow" won Best Song. My kids MADE me watch it. I sat down like a huffy two-year old sure I would hate it. I am still humming that dratted song a month after seeing the DVD!

I'm really glad Phillip Seymour Hoffman won. He's an amazing actor, and has been in so many roles that I love.

I love BBM, and thought it should have won -- oh, EVERYTHING.

BUt Jake? Nah, he didn't do much in that film. Heath was the really meaty role. Jake was allowed ot emote. Heath had to get his feelings across without... I odn't know, SHOWING them? And he did it so amazingly, so incredibly, so beautifully... I thought he deserved an oscar for that.

But I was also rooting for Sean Astin a few years ago. I thought he was INCREDIBLE. Robbed, I tell you. ROBBED.
